Family Reunion: A Netflix series starring Tia Mowry that features many famous cameos. Family Reunion is about life for the McKellan family as they adapt to living in the rural town of Columbus, Georgia after moving from Seattle, Washington with their extended family. (Rated TV-PG)
Raising Dion: Another Netflix series with upcoming actress Alisha Wainwright and a few cameos from Michael B. Jordan is about a widowed mother who must hide her son’s superpowers as she tries to find out the real truth behind her husband’s death. (Rated TV-PG)
Movies That Tell Stories From Black History
Redtails: Inspired by the true World War II story about the first black aerial combat unit also known as the Tuskegee Airmen. These men were part of the Tuskegee Institute experimental program that trained black soldiers to become fighter pilots. (Rated PG-13)
Hidden Figures: The story of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson. Three black women mathematicians who were the masterminds that computed and solved many math problems for NASA operations. These women ended up becoming the reason for success behind one of NASA’s greatest operations in history. (Rated PG)
Self-Made: This movie is a historical account of the life of Madam CJ Walker, the first self-made black woman millionaire. (Rated TV-MA)
Selma: Set in the mid-’60s, this movie describes the journey of Martin Luther King Jr. and those that supported him as they marched from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in protest to the discrimination, oppression, and racism that was prevalent. (Rated PG-13)
