At Headfirst Summer Camps, our mission has remained constant: inspire the personal best in high potential kids. While it has come in different shapes and sizes over the past couple of summers, the inspiration never stopped at Headfirst!
As we continue to grow heading into our 26th season, we will continue to provide kids with a wide range of programming this summer, from day camp to sports to STEM, in order to deliver a daily combination of safety and personal growth to all campers.
Headfirst is one of the most popular camps in town, with the area’s highest renewal and family satisfaction rates. 2021 was one of Headfirst’s most successful summers on record, running at five unique locations across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia with purposeful COVID-19 safety measures in place. Headfirst will operate at the same five locations in 2022 and maintain the same focus on creating a safe and active space for campers and counselors.
More than just Summer Camp
Headfirst’s program curricula are written by experienced educators and promote their “Super 6” skills:
- Emotional mastery
- Optimism
- Resiliency
- Self-efficacy
- Hope and goal setting
- Grit and determination
Staff are trained on how to relay these concepts to kids in age-specific ways and ensure that the lessons learned at Headfirst will stick with campers far beyond the summer.
It still is camp, though, so there are tons of fun, team-building traditions as well, such as eye-black with positive messages, Icee parties (which must be earned by working together) and colored wristbands highlighting whichever skill is the focus that week (which also must be earned). Campers who attend multiple weeks wear their collection of wristbands proudly.
A Program for Every Camper
Headfirst’s range of programming includes Day and Junior Day camps with different weekly themes, as well as a Multi-Sport option where campers rotate through all kinds of outdoor sports.
New for 2022, the Innovators, Inc. program will feature a weekly field trip or expert workshop, and the STEM program is partnering with LEGO Play-Well TEKnologies to immerse campers in a choose-your-own-adventure engineering extravaganza.
Headfirst is also proud to be the official camp provider for two of our favorite hometown teams: D.C. United and the Washington Nationals.
