Celebrate The Day of The Dead with this healthy, low sugar, kid-friendly Cinnamon Pumpkin Donut recipe.

Day of the Dead or Dia de Los Muertos

Day of the Dead or Dia de Los Muertos is celebrated in Mexico on November 1st and 2nd. Many people think of this as our version of Halloween but that is definitely not the case.

Dia de Los Muertos is a celebration of life and death. It is said that on this special day those who we loved and have passed away temporarily return to the Earth. That is why you can find a special altar or ofrenda in most homes. As far as for the costumes a lot of people like to dress up as skeletons to make fun and commemorate death.  You can see people of all ages with their faces artfully painted to resemble skulls and mimicking the Calavera Catrina, also referred to as Mexico’s Grand Dame of Death.

Nowadays more and more people are getting familiarized with The Day of the Dead Mexican tradition. Especially after last year’s Disney Pixar movie “Coco”.

Celebrate with this Healthy Cinnamon Pumpkin Donut Recipe

To commemorate Dia de Los Muertos you can make this kid-friendly healthy Cinnamon Pumpkin Donut Recipe. While it is not the exact food you can find on the day of the dead altars, I was inspired by the more traditional pumpkin bread.
